About Albor

Named forthe first light

We are a network of local photographers in twelve places across Spain. You agree the price first, in writing, and it does not move. The person who meets you lives where you are standing — and knows at what hour it is worth standing there.

The word

albor

/alˈβoɾ/ · noun, masculine · Spanish

  1. 1.The light of dawn: the half hour before sunrise, when the sky has colour and the sun has not yet arrived to flatten it.
  2. 2.The beginning of something.

We chose it because it is the one hour outdoors, on a Spanish latitude between May and September, that is not a compromise. Everything we do is arranged around getting you there.

Why the hour decidesTwo windows a day

From June to September most of Spain has no usable outdoor light between eleven in the morning and eight in the evening. A sun seventy degrees up puts a shadow under every brow and closes everyone's eyes, and no amount of skill fixes it afterwards.

Spanish clocks make it worse: the country runs about ninety minutes ahead of its sun, so "golden hour at six" — the habit visitors bring with them — lands in full glare. Our photographers plan to the sun, not the clock.

Why we existWe reversed the order

This began with a complaint we kept hearing. Booking a photographer somewhere you do not live meant three days of email, a price that arrived last, and no way of knowing whether the person had ever worked in that city before.

So we put the price first. You see a figure before you type your name, the written quote arrives within two working hours, and the number on it is the number you pay. Travel inside the area you booked is included; there is no charge per image and no retouching sold afterwards.

Then we made the second decision, the one the photographs depend on: every photographer on the network lives in the place they shoot. They know which lane in Santa Cruz is shaded at noon, which viewpoint in Granada fills at sunset, and where to move when the Atlantic arrives in San Sebastián. None of that can be researched from somewhere else.

Who gets inFour conditions to join

01

Published client work

We look at what a photographer has delivered to real clients, not a portfolio assembled for the occasion. A best day with unlimited time proves little; an ordinary Tuesday proves a lot.

02

Lives where they shoot

Nobody is flown in and nobody is sent from a head office. The photographer who answers already works professionally in the place you are going to be.

03

Knows the hour and the rules

Which spot is empty at seven, which one needs a permit, which one closes at dusk. The answers are local, and they are the difference between a session and a search.

04

Stays only while the work holds

We refund in full when the work is not what was promised. A network that pays for its own mistakes has every reason to be careful about who it keeps.

What we will not do

  • Book an outdoor session at two in the afternoon in August without telling you what it will look like.
  • Charge per image, or sell the retouching separately.
  • Add a travel line to the bill inside the area you booked.
  • Hand your session to someone who has never worked in that city.
  • Take a deposit just to answer a question.

We booked a photo session in Barcelona and we are delighted with the result. Communication was very easy, everything was very well organised, and the photographs exceeded our expectations. We have incredible memories of our trip.

We chose this service for our honeymoon and it was exactly the right call. The photographer was punctual, kind and very attentive to detail. The photographs came out romantic and natural. We love all of them and it was hard to pick favourites.

We booked a session to celebrate our anniversary and it was one of the best decisions of the trip. The place, the light and the photographs were spectacular. We also had them back very quickly. Recommended a hundred per cent.

Questions about us

What does "Albor" mean?

It is Spanish for the first light of dawn — the half hour before sunrise. It is the hour the whole site argues for: on a Spanish latitude in summer, it is the only outdoor light that is not a compromise.

Are you a studio or a network?

A network. Nobody is employed here or sent out from a head office; each photographer already works professionally in their own city. We take responsibility for the part of a booking that usually goes wrong — the price, the schedule and the delivery.

How do you choose your photographers?

On published client work rather than a portfolio assembled for the occasion, and only among photographers who live and work where they shoot. They stay on while the work holds up — our refund guarantee means we pay for anyone who does not.

When do I get my photos?

It depends on the session, and each service page states it: 24 hours for a proposal, 48 hours for a holiday session, 48–72 hours for most portrait, couple and family sessions, and 30 days for a full wedding.

What if I am not satisfied?

If the work is not what was promised, we refund you in full. If the weather turns before the session, it moves to another slot at no cost.

Which places do you cover?

Twelve across Spain: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Málaga and Bilbao, where the work is mostly local, and Granada, San Sebastián, Ibiza, Mallorca, Marbella and Tenerife, where people travel to be photographed.

How the network worksA booking network, not a studio

This is a booking network rather than a studio. Nobody is employed here and nobody is sent out from a head office; the people who answer already work professionally in the place you are going to be. What the network takes responsibility for is the part of a booking that usually goes wrong — the price, the schedule and the delivery.

What is promised is deliberately narrow and easy to check. The price is agreed in writing before anything is booked and does not move. The number of edited photographs and the delivery time are stated on every service page. If the weather turns, the session moves at no cost; if the work is not what was promised, it is refunded in full rather than argued about.
