A studio portrait asks you to be still and look at a lens, which almost nobody is good at and which produces a particular, slightly held expression. A lifestyle session removes the instruction. You walk, you are talked to, and the photographs are taken between the moments when you are being photographed — which is why they look like you and the studio version looks like a portrait.
Two locations within walking distance, chosen for what the light does at the hour you have booked rather than for what they are called. In practice that means narrow streets with walls close enough to bounce light back into a face, and open ground only at the two ends of the day. It is the same principle behind every city page on this site, applied to one person.
Thirty retouched photographs in a private gallery within 48 to 72 hours, delivered at full resolution with a licence to print and post. There is no per-image charge and no retouching sold separately afterwards.
Frequently asked questions about Lifestyle portrait
How is this different from a studio portrait?
There is no background. We walk two locations within a few minutes of each other and photograph you moving through them, so the pictures carry a place and a time of day as well as a face.
What happens if the weather turns?
We move the hour, not the day. Overcast is the easiest light there is for a portrait; the session is only rescheduled for rain heavy enough to stop you walking.
What should I wear?
Solid mid-tones, and shoes you can walk in for an hour. Fine stripes and small checks shimmer on screen. Bring one change if you want the two locations to look like two days.
